The
exhibition route starts with some items dating between the
late Neolithic and the Iron Age, among which those coming from
the excavations in Poggio Castellano. Works carried out in
this site brought to light some traces of a small Villanovan
settlement (8th century B.C.).
Here on
display are also the items coming from the Sanctuary of
Tanaccia: bronze statuettes of devotees, ex-votos
representing anatomic parts, coins and pottery (5th century
B.C. – 4th century A.D.).
The
last case shows some remains of the Roman Period found in
various places of San Marino territory. Among them are two
valuable bronze statuettes, a man on his horse and
Mercury sit on a rock (1st – 2nd century A.D.).
Praiseworthy is also a bronze statuette of a devotee
wearing a toga (1st – 2nd century A.D.) discovered at
Sant’Igne in San Leo and donated to the Museum in 1898.
