The first case of this
section and room is dedicated to the donations by Count Luigi
Cibrario from
Turin, whose support was fundamental to the creation of the
State Museum. Thanks to his precious influence, the Museum
received many donations from antiques and arts collectors. The
donation is made up of only few pieces, due to the fact that
the Count was a politician and an historian, not a collector.
Such items were purchased by San Marino State in 1871.
Praiseworthy is the bronze cinerary urn
of
Bolognese manufacture, dating back between the 8th and the 7th
century B.C.
The second case contains the
entire collection, made up of 27 stone tools, of the so-called
megalithic culture of Armorique donated by Alfredo
Jusselin in 1887: various kinds of axes (hammer-axes, flat
axes, for cutting or defence, some with a hole in the middle
for the handle), chisels, drifts and scrapers for processing
meat and leather. According to the donor, these objects come
from the most northern part of Brittany.
Other donations include flint foils, splints
and arrow points of the Early Palaeolithic and of the
Neolithic Periods, of doubtful or unknown provenance. |
